Masters of the Monsoon

The Monsoon is here and the jungle is full of murk, full of mystery. Hidden between the dense foliage lies many untold truths waiting to be discovered. Come explore the forest with us as we unlock the secrets to the masters of the monsoon.

Wildlife

Nagarhole is one of the few Tiger Reserves in India that stays open through the monsoon. With an astonishing density in asiatic wildlife, this is your best opportunity to come see the magnificent colors of a tiger ghost through the greenery, the elusive leopard lounging on trees, the odd bear amble away, packs of dholes strategies their hunts, herds of elephants and gaur congregate for fresh feed and the last but not least, the ethereal black panther come into his own. As these animals welcome the rain, Kabini offers you the most exciting safaris during the monsoon.

It is important to understand how this change in weather affects the behavior of Kabini’s resident wildlife and the naturalists at The Bison are very knowledgable.

“The rains spark new life and a host of animals and plants come alive during this time, as the monsoon transforms the jungle. The deciduous teak trees grow large leaves again, which leopards in particular love to conceal themselves in. The nocturnal bear can now be seen in the day, in search of food and a new mate. We have to change the way we track and perceive this forest. The road becomes our map as pug marks are a crucial to determine the direction and movement of big cats. Tigers prefer to use the safari tracks to navigate through the forest as the undergrowth reduces visibility. Being at the right place at the right time and knowing where to look, becomes very important during the monsoon. This is the difference between just another rainy day and an absolutely magical moment in the wilderness. At camp we offer lovely walks around the property for birds and reptiles. Butterflies, songbirds, beautiful tree frogs and more welcome you The Bison” – Shashank Reddy (Naturalist at The Bison)
